Resolute to Survive

As survivors of the Holocaust, these sisters have endured some of the worst atrocities the world has ever seen. Upon arriving at Auschwitz, Dolly and Suzy were separated from the rest of their family, and forced to cruel labor until sent from the camp as part of the death march in August of 1945. With nothing left to cling to but each other and their faith in God, they walked for days.

“There came a time when I did not have any more strength to walk, and I said I have to sit down. My sisters knew what would happen if I sat down. They put their arms under my shoulders and dragged me along until we arrived... I owe a lot of my life to my sisters.”

Today, these women are uplifted by their growing family, supported by their community, and inspired by the goodwill and charity of others. The power of sisterhood and courageousness despite uncertainty are at the heart of this story of strength. Dolly and Suzy’s support of each other and determination to survive sustained them beyond the end of the war and as they moved to America to start their new lives, penniless yet hopeful.
